“I have always wanted to create wearable art that is durable, colourful and lightweight but there was a problem - I did not want to create plastic waste.

After meeting Terri from Red Hill Creative in Chinchilla at an art conference, we got talking about environmentally conscious practices. She agreed to help me turn trash into treasure, using leftover material from her laser cutting business. Using designs from my sketchbook, my earring shapes were added to the gaps of unused acrylic that normally would have been discarded.

Although time-consuming and restrictedto limited colour options, this process allowed me to create a collection of truly unique pieces, a celebration of both resourcefulness and individuality.” Katie Whyte, Visual Artist, Toowoomba
