Petal Pop: An Artist made, Eco-friendly collection for flower lovers

“Petal Pop” is a collection of re-used objects named after imagining the outburst of a party-popper filled with petals; a celebration of Spring in the most carnival way possible.

This fun style follows an ongoing theme in my work of pulling apart recognisable imagery, such as a flower. By separating the object into basic shapes and letting them float through space we get a sense for their origin as our imagination starts to take control.

These unique merchandise items are made of unwanted materials: thrift shop crockery and glassware and offcuts of sign-writer’s vinyl. It seems vast quantities of near-new household items are donated these days. I took this as an opportunity to repurpose these resources and give you a new way to enjoy my art as a part of your everyday life through everyday rituals like picking flowers.

I was that little girl who grew up in the countryside, picking wildflowers (aka weeds) on the side of the road on my afternoon walks. Today I am the woman who always stops to smell the roses, which slows down almost every commute as I walk most places in the garden city. It is totally normal for my studio days at home to be broken up by cups of tea in my backyard, always heading back inside to continue painting with one or two flowers. These tiny bouquets take pride of place on my studio as temporary reminders of time spent outside and tiny moments of joy.

UPDATE: Most of the Petal Pop vase collection was purchased in my Spring 2023 online sale. You can shop what is left from this Eco-Friendly collection of Up-cycled Vases and other merchandise at the upcoming McGregor Winter school markets.
